Couple now Police Commissioners; 7,200 others promoted… Lagos Police Commissioner becomes AIG
A couple – Kehinde and Yetunde Longe, who joined the Nigeria Police the same day – have been promoted to Commissioners of Police.
This is one of the highlights of the elevation of over 7,200 policemen and women approved for elevation by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Also promoted are two Assistant Inspectors-General who are now Deputy Inspectors-General and six Commissioners of Police, who will wear the rank of Assistant Inspector-General, while 17 Deputy Commissioners moved a step further to Commissioners of Police.
In a statement by the commissioned, signed by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, 24 Assistant Commissioners are now Deputy Commissioners of Police, just 49 Chief Superintendents were promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police.
Ani said that at the PSC’s 13th plenary meeting in Abuja last Monday and Tuesday, it also promoted 74 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents of Police and 66 Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents, while 7,166 Assistant Superintendents of Police II were elevated to ASP I.
Before it adjourned to next month, the PSC also considered 24 promotion appeals relating to adjustment in promotion dates and seniority, among other factors.
The new DIGs are Zaki M. Ahmed, the AIG Zone 6; and Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, a member of the Force Management Team. The statement explained that Ahmed was promoted to replace DIG Tijjani Baba, who retired in October, while Kokumo will be stepping into the vacancy created by DIG David Oyebanji Folawiyo, who bowed out of the Force last month.
Among the new AIGs is the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu. According to the statement, his “appeal for adjustment of promotion date was approved”.
Other Commissioners of Police who are now AIG in similar circumstances are: Buba Sanusi (Commissioner of Police for Katsina State), Ndatsu Aliyu Mohammed (CP Anti-Fraud, Force Headquarters Abuja), Bello Sani Dalijan (CP Independent National Electoral Commission), Sahabo Abubakar Yahaya (CP Yobe State) and Akingbola Olatunji (CP Benue State).
Apart from the Longes – Kehinde Patrick and Yetunde – the 15 other new Commissioners of Police are: Josephine Nneka Anyasinti, Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, Godwin Aghaulor, Effiom Emmanuel, Stanley Kanayochukwu Ude, Charles Ifeatu Mozie, Tajudeen Olakunle Bakare, Samuel Olukayode Emmanuel, Faleye Olaleye, Haruna Gabriel Garba, Tajudeen Akinwale Abass, Rex Dundun, Ambrose Sunny Onah, Durosinmi A. Olatoye and Ndu Innocent Anene.
Among the 24 new Deputy Commissioners of Police is Fidelis Ndubuisi Ogarebe, the former Chief Security Officer to Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is one of the 17 Deputy Commissioners promoted to Commissioners.
Others are: Hope Urunwa Okafor, Ajo Geofrey Orue, Olufunke Adeayo Ogunbode, Stephen Olubunmi Ogedengbe, Yabode Oluwatoyin Agbminoja, Ojo Adekimi, Adebowale Lawal, Yemi John Oyeniyi, Obasi Mary Okereke, Moses Ashu Ottah, Felix Akineme Nnebue, Sunday Adeolu Oke, Gazali Alade Abdul-Salam, Alamu Muyideen Obe, Olubode Ojajuni, Sheikh Mohammed Danko, Simon Asamber Lough, Abiola Reuben Olutunde, Charles Ezekwesiri Dike, Victor Avwerosuo Erivwode, Nnanna Oji Ama, Michael Adegoroye Falade and Yakubu Useni Dankaro.
